문득 사용중인 넷북의 성능에 불만이 좀 생겨서 몇가지 항목을 업그레이드 하였습니다.

1. 메모리의 경우는 업그레이드가 쉽습니다. 뒷판에 교체를 위한 커버가 있기 때문에 여기를 열어서 메모리를 바꿔꽂으면 됩니다. 다만 슬롯이 하나뿐이라서 기존에 있던거는 처분을 해야 합니다. 기존 1G를 제거하고 새로 2G를 꼽았습니다. 사실 메모리는 처음 구입당시 업그레이드를 했습니다만 관련내용이라 같이 적어둡니다. 

2. 하드와 무선랜카드를 교체하기 위해서는 뒷판을 열어야 하는데요. 세어보니 나사가 14개가 있네요. 이를 모두 열고 앞면 SD카드 슬롯부분부터 시작하여 조심하면서 커버를 분리하면 별 무리없이 내부를 확인할 수 있게 됩니다.

하드는 2.5인치 SATA 인터페이스를 이용하므로 규격이 맞는 것으로 교체할 수가 있는데, 저는 삼성에서 나온 500G 제품으로 선택을 하였습니다.

3. 무선랜카드의 경우는 802.11n을 이용하기 위해 교체를 결심하게 되었고, 이를 지원하는 랜카드에는 안테나가 3개 들어가는 것과 2개 들어가는 것으로 구분이 되는데, 기존에 달려있던 안테나가 2개가 달려있으므로 번거로움을 피하기 위해 인텔에서 내장용으로 나오는 wifi 5100 AGN을 구입하였습니다.

교체자체는 그리 어렵지 않습니다. 그냥 기존것 때어네고 새것을 그자리에 끼우면 됩니다. (위 사진 참조)

요약해 보면

• 메모리: 1G ==> 2G (삼성 DDR2 2G)
• HDD: 160G ==> 500G (삼성 HM500JI)
• 무선랜카드: 802.11abg ==> 802.11agn (Intel wiki 5100 AGN)

이 되는 군요.

일단 아직까지 만족스럽습니다. 특히 802.11n을 이원하는 무선랜을 이용중일때 기존보다 확실히 빨라졌네요. 후후. 당연히 무리없이 잘 사용할 수 있으리라 예상중입니다. 

그래도 비슷한 걸 해보고 싶지만 경험이 부족하거나 자신이 없는 분들은 잘 하는 분들의 도움을 받기를 권장합니다.  

윈도우 라이브 메신저(Windows Live Messenger: WLM)을 사용하다 보면 하단에 광고창이 나타납니다. 그런데 이녀석이 영~ 맘에 안드는게, 그 위로 마우스가 스치기만 해도 광고창이 나타나서 귀찮게 하곤 하지요. 

그래서, 인터넷을 좀 뒤져보니 많은 분들이 저와 비슷한 고민을 해 왔고, 여러가지 해결 방법이 있더라구요. 

그중에서 광고창은 남겨두지만 광고가 보이지 않도록 하는 방법을 소개합니다. 참고로, 원래 출처를 찾을수가 없고, 많은 게시물에 해당 방법이 나와 있어서 따로 출처를 표시하지는 않았습니다.

요지는 광고를 받아오는 도메인을 무력화 시키는 것인데요, OS가 도메인 주소를 IP주소로 바꾸기 위해 DNS서버에 문의를 하기 전에 시스템에 만들어져 있는 hosts 파일을 먼저 검색합니다. 그 점을 이용해서 해당 도메인을 의미없는 곳으로 연결시켜버리면 더이상 광고를 받아올 수 없게 됩니다.

1. 파일 찾아서 열기: \\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

• 숨김파일을 볼수 있도록 탐색기 설정 변경
• 메모장으로 열기
• 비스타나 Windows 7 에서는 관리자 권한으로 열어야 합니다.

2. 다음 내용 추가

• # for Windows Live Messenger
• 127.0.0.1 rad.msn.com
• 127.0.0.1 rad.live.com

3. 저장후에 WLM 다시 시작

4. 그 외에 환경설정(옵션->레이아웃)을 통해 불필요한 군더더기들 제거

• 친한 대화 상대 표시 체크 제거
• 클럽 표시 체크 제거
• 탭 모음 표시 체크 제거
• 따끈따끈 소식 표시 체크 제거

5. 결과

Windows 7 이 쓸만하다는 소릴 듣고, 갑자기 푹~ 빠져서 사용중인 모든 PC와 노트북에 Windows 7 을 설치했습니다. 

소문데로 XP에 비해서 탁월한 성능을 보여주는 반면에, 시스템 요구사항도 낮은 편이어서 넷북에서도 무리없이 돌아가는 걸 확인했습니다.

자세한 얘기는 기회되면 또 올리겠고...

Windows 7 에 곰플레이어를 설치했습니다. 별 문제가 없는듯 보였습니다만, 일부 동영상에서 소리가 나질 않는 겁니다. 특이한 점은 해당 동영상이 미디어 플레이어에서는 정상적으로 재생이 된다는 사실입니다. 

결론적으로 정확한 이유는 모르겠으나, Windows 7 에 내장된 코덱과 곰플레이어에 내장된 코덱 사이에 문제가 있어보입니다.

문제를 일으키는 동영상의 공통점은 소리가 AC3로 인코딩된 영상들이었는데요. 그래서 별도로 AC3필터를 깔아주었더니 문제가 해결되었습니다. 

혹시 유사한 문제를 겪고 계신 분께 도움이 되길 바랍니다.
